OUR LOVE STORY
How we met
Our love story began at a graffiti-covered dive bar in Sydney’s Inner West, in the early months of 2019.
Tom, an Irish law student on a year's study abroad visa in Sydney, and Sam, a freelance designer in the advertising industry.
Working part-time slinging cocktails and smashburgers in Newton, our paths first crossed as weekend-colleagues turned weekend-friends.
A cute but relaxed first date ensued shortly after, both of us assuming we’d be going different directions in the long term.
How naïve we were.
Fast forward to
Within the space of a few weeks, we had fallen for each other hard.
Not ideal.
Tom’s “temporary” return to Ireland, just a few months later, right before the COVID-19 pandemic hit, set in motion the ultimate test of our newfound love.
For nearly two and a half years, we not only managed to maintain a relationship entirely online — we thrived. It became immediately clear to both of us that what we had was simply meant to be, and not even a global pandemic could stand in our way.
A tear-filled reunion finally came in Amsterdam in the winter of 2021, and we’ve been building our new life here together ever since.
The proposal
It was a September evening in Taormina, Sicily, 2024, when Tom got down on one knee ( with the ring he had bought that very morning ) and asked Sam the question that had been on his mind since those early months in Sydney.
After a well-deserved and relaxed engagement — and some lively celebrations in Dublin last year — we are so excited to finally tie the knot on Sam’s beautiful family property in Mandurama, Australia, surrounded by the people who make our lives as magical as they are.
